The fifth edition of the annual European Film Festival begins in Abuja on May 10, 2012. The festival will showcase recent, crowd-pulling films by some of the best producers in European Union member states, Switzerland and Serbia across five Nigerian cities.
Besides Abuja, the Film Festival train, according to a release by the EU, will touch down in Jos, Kaduna, Lagos and Port Harcourt before winding up on June 24.
“Movies speak a universal language, as they capture the defining features of our shared humanity and thus, can improve our mutual understanding and serve as bridges between our continents. The event offers Nigerians an opportunity to take a fresh look at Europe,” the organisers said.
This year’s edition is the brainwork of the delegation of the EU to Nigeria, the EU member states, the current Danish Presidency of the EU and the embassies of Switzerland and Serbia.
Recent and popular cinematographic works from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, The Netherlands, Sweden, Serbia and Switzerland will be screened during the festival.
Previous editions of the European Film Festival were successful, and this year, more than 25 movies from different European countries will be shown to a large audience on each occasion. The festival is being extended to Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Jos for the first time.
